Year 2

Welcome to Year 2

There are two classes in Year 2: 2EL and 2CB.
2EL is taught by Mrs Davis-Lloyd and 2CB is taught by Miss Bacon. Mr. Hodgkinson and Mrs. Rouse also work across both Year 2 classes.
Throughout Year 2 we will be applying what we have learnt in Year 1 and we will also be building upon this.

Autumn Term – This is Me + My Place, My Time.

During the Autumn term we will be focusing on the whole school topic ‘This is Me’. This will be followed by the next topic, ‘My Place, My Time’, which will have a Geography and History focus, including learning about the countries in the UK and the continents of the world, and the Great Fire of London in 1666.

As mathematicians, we will develop our understanding of place value with numbers to 100 and develop methods to help us solve addition and subtraction calculations. We will also apply our skills to solve mathematical problems.

As writers we will be developing our narrative writing skills which will include a variety of punctuation. We will write descriptions and develop our knowledge of nouns and adjectives.

As readers we will continue to develop our Phonics and work towards being more fluent readers. Children who are off the Phonics programme will explore different texts and carry out comprehension activities.

We will use key texts like ‘Silly Billy’, ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ and ‘Into the Forest’.

In Science, we will be learning about living things and their habitats, and then everyday materials.
