Looks what we are reading for pleasure…

Autumn Term

During the first term, we will be focusing on the whole school topic, ‘My Place, My Time’, which will focus on Geography (mountains of the UK) for the first half term and History (Ancient Greece) for the second.

In English lessons, we will be focusing on developing language to create effective descriptive writing that entertains the reader and helps them to visualise; adding speech to our stories; writing to persuade; and writing to inform. Our focus texts will be Little Mouse’s Book of Fear’s, The Papaya That Spoke and The Great Kapok Tree.

In maths lessons, we will be developing our knowledge of place value, as well as learning the formal methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We will also be working hard to learn our times tables ready for the multiplication text at the end of the year.

In reading lessons, we will use the full range of ‘Expert Tips’, to explore, interpret and understand texts from our “Comprehension X” texts.

In science lessons, we will be learning about our different type of teeth and how these start the digestive system. We will also be looking at living things and their habitats, particularly focusing on whether something is a vertebrate or invertebrate.

This term

In DT lessons this term, we have designed, made and evaluated a healthy omelette (a traditional French dish made with beaten eggs). We had to whisk the eggs and prepare our ingredients by cutting and grating.

As artists, we have developed our sketching skills to create a self portrait in the style of Emily Gravett using hatching and cross hatching.

P.E

This term we will be swimming on Thursday morning and learning and applying a variety of ball skills on a Friday afternoon.
