At Hollymount School there are 2 Reception classes, RLD and RHW. They share a purpose built reception unit which includes a classroom each, a shared messy area and outdoor learning space.
As part of our learning children take reading books home every day. Please share these at home with your children as often as possible and remember to write in the reading record and bring them back in book bags every day.
We have been learning and having fun all autumn term – here is some of our learning:
Safari Park Visit
Reception had so much fun on our trip to the safari park in December. It was a snowy day but we still saw lots of animals. We went on a special ride to see Santa too.
This week Reception have been carrying out ice experiments. We came in on Monday to a letter from Mummy Polar bear saying Lars was stuck in the ice and could we help him to get out. We thought of lots of ideas of how to get Lars out of the ice. We thought we could ‘smash it, wrap it in scarfs, run hot water over it and put it in the microwave. We tried out all these different ideas to find the best way to get Lars out.
Reception were so lucky this week we had lots of visitor come to see us to talk about their jobs. We had the guide do lady we learnt lots about what a guide dog does for people. We had a midwife come and tell us about her jobs and we got to listen to our heart beats through a stethoscope. We loved having a look inside the lorry that came to school. We found out that the lorry driver sleeps in his lorry.
