West Mercia Police Rugby Tournament

In the first match of the tournament against Stanley Road, Hollymount’s team of Year 6’s played very well and won convincingly with three great individual tries from Rhys, and good team move finished by Felicity. It was an impressive start from this inexperienced team, but the good start didn’t last.

Close defeats to Pitmaston and Lyppards made it tough for Hollymount to qualify for the quarter finals. These matches featured some fantastic attacking play with the tries scored by Zuzanna, Fabian and Kevin.

In the next match against St Georges, Fabian and Zuzanna scored brilliant tries to put Hollymount in the lead. However, St Georges, helped by some tight refereeing decisions when Fabian looked to have scored again, recovered to win 3-2.

In the final match of the group, Hollymount needed a result to qualify for the next round. The match against Cranham, an amazing run allowed Alise to score, before Kevin extended the lead. Cranham managed to score twice, despite some brilliant defensive play by Hollymount. The match finished 2-2 and just got Hollymount into the next round, although they would have to win a play-off match to get to the quarter finals.

After lunch Hollymount played Perrywood, needing the win. The year 6 team delievered in style and showed their improving skill and confidence on the pitch by winning 5-1, with two tries each for Charlotte and Fabian and a great team move finished by Kevin.

In the quarter final Hollymount played St Clements. The match was very close with tries from Rhys, Kevin and Skye cancelling out early St Clements’ tries. With the match at 3-3 near the end and both teams attacking, Hollymount nearly snatched an unlikely comeback win against the more experienced team. However, St Clements scored and held on to complete a 4-3 win and knock Hollymount out of the tournament.
