Intent
At Hollymount School, it is our intent to give all children a strong understanding of the world around them whilst acquiring and developing specific skills and knowledge to help them to think scientifically. We aim for the children to gain an understanding of scientific processes and an understanding of the uses and implications of science today and for the future.
Our Science curriculum fosters a healthy curiosity about our universe and promotes respect for the living and non-living. It encompasses the acquisition of knowledge, concepts, skills and positive attitudes. We encourage our children to become resilient learners and aim to provide an environment where children collaboratively feel confident to make ‘magic mistakes’ and to make steps to ultimately succeed. We emphasise the importance of language and using scientific vocabulary. The ‘Working Scientifically’ skills are embedded in each topic the children study and these topics are revisited and developed throughout their time at school.

Implementation
Warwick University
We are very lucky to have links with an outreach program from Warwick University. This program is designed to help children see their full potential and aim high when looking to the future. As part of this, we are fortunate to have Nick Barker regularly visit our school and work with the children. He is an inspiration to the children and has helped us create a ‘science buzz’ in school. Not only has he delivered some very exciting assemblies, but he has also invited a variety of visitors to come in and do workshops and assemblies with the children. We are excited to continue working with Nick this year and look forward to sharing some of the exciting work we will be doing!
Ogden trust
Hollymount School are part of The Worcester Ogden partnership, as part of this partnership our children have been invited to attend free workshops, have access to fantastic resources and many other brilliant opportunities to enjoy science.
STEM ambassadors
STEM ambassadors are children in Years 4, 5 and 6 that will be the voice of the children for science and technology.
Did you know?
We now have a STEM lab! It will is full of science equipment for experiments as well as being used for DT and as a computing room! Key Stage 2 are using it regularly and the whole school use all of the resources.
Malvern College
Last year, some Year 5 and 6 pupils were lucky enough to be invited to Malvern college to take part in their “The Magic of Science” day. Children saw a wonderful demonstration and took part in three activities where they were investigating in real labs! They had a brilliant time being real scientists, they used chemicals, ran their own experiments and tested their senses. It was a great opportunity to work with pupils and staff from Malvern college and show of our already growing scientific knowledge.
