This summer term we have launched an initiative in school to encourage reading.

Our aim is to count the minutes we all read in school and at home and see if we can reach 1,000,000 minutes by the end of our school reading week at the end of June.

Each child has a reading log. Every time he/she either reads with you or on their own please help them to record what they read and for how many minutes.

The reading may of course be their school reading book but could also be a book from home, a newspaper, a website, a recipe—ANYTHING which involves reading. We will collect how many minutes each class has read each week (at home and at school) and display the total in the school entrance hall.

FUN FACT—to reach the total each child will have to read for 2, 631 minutes or 43 hours! Easy!

You will be able to see the progress we are making, if you visit the school office. In the office area we have also displayed the key books each year group will be using as part of this term’s work. If you would like to buy a copy of these books, there is an order form available on the display table.
