Problem Solving Day

Problem Solving Day 2015- 2BT

In the hall with Mrs Barton we had to tie our legs together with our partner and had to try and walk.  We pretended that we were in a ship and had to walk in hula hoops.  At the end we had to take our ribbons because we fell over.

2BT’s stars of the active activity:

Oliver H was watching people and giving instructions so that people knew when to stop and start.

Milena was very respectful when people fell over.

Daniel was very good at knowing when people needed to stop and take more care.

Speaking and Listening Activity

In our classroom with Mrs Turner we had a piece of paper with a drawing of a house.  We had some cards with information about different parts of the house and we had to find cards that belonged to the same group.  We wrote down the information and then people went to other tables to get information for their house sheet.  We then played a barrier game where one person drew a house and spoke and the other person had to draw exactly what they were told. At the end we looked to see if our picture was the same as our partner’s picture.

2BT’s stars of the speaking and listening activity:

Tiffany slowed her speech to allow time for Kuba to write.

Pushpender read the sentence once then repeated it more slowly to allow his table to write.

Jack and Milena used technical vocabulary.

Oliver H asked questions to ensure that Jacob was ready to write and repeated his sentences.

Jacob demonstrated active listening and repeated the sentence to himself before writing.

Construction Activity

With Miss Taylor we had to make a tower with all kinds of resources (Jack) and materials (Oliver H).  We put an egg on the top and it had to balance for 3 seconds.  Luckily they were hard boiled eggs because lots of them fell to the ground. At the end Miss Taylor measured the height of the tower and saw whether it was strong enough to hold the egg.

2BT’s stars of the construction activity:

Stuart, Poppy and Connor K began working on their own but soon realised that they would work much better as a group.

Marlene was very organised and Sara worked as a team.

Jacob demonstrated active listening and repeated the sentence to himself before writing.

Whole School Challenge

Everyone had a great day solving different problems! In the afternoon, all classes were challenged to make a set of scales. The entries for the competition can be seen below.

Miss Pritchard judged all of the brilliant scales and decided that both year 1 classes won! Congratulations to 1EL and 1TR!
